How medical alert systems came about
Americans are bombarded with news stories everyday about murders and other threats to their lives, but what is of more concern is the danger that actually lurks in one’s home. This danger is more prevalent specifically for older people, and the frail, and you would not actually believe what the danger is. Surveys have suggested that falling in the elderly is one of the leading causes of death. The fall does not actually cause the death, but the elderly or frail are not able to get to a phone to contact the emergency services, and thus are left to lie where they have fell, and a minor incident usually leads to some major consequences, and potentially death. This aspect thus led to medical researchers to find a way in which old people are able to contact emergency services, and thus led to the revolution which is the medical alert system industry today. In fact, medical alert systems have become more commonplace in many senior citizen homes, and specifically for the disabled. Basically, a medical alert system is a solution that aids the user who needs some medical assistance, but is not able to contact the emergency services of their own accord. A medical alarm is usually fitted in the home, with a wireless transponder that when activated will contact the emergency services. The latest technology does not need to even be activated by a button, but rather relies on the monitoring of the vital signs.
